Brick House Bakery

Sourdough bakery and cafe brand with locations in East Dulwich and Peckham.

From a one-man band operating out of an old moped garage off Peckham Rye Common to a thriving business turning over £2 million a year, Brick House was built from the ground up into a much loved and respected brand.

Our East Dulwich mothership housed the bakery and a 40 cover cafe where we made everything under one roof, including an all-day dining menu, coffee, pastries and sourdough bread for ourselves, and wholesale customers including some of London’s finest retailers and restaurants such as Neal’s Yard Dairy, Duck Soup, The Canton Arms, Brunswick House and La Fromagerie.

My role focused on leading bread and pastry production and the output of the kitchen, including new product and menu development, and teaching bread classes. I was also Brick House’s Creative Director, establishing the brand’s tone of voice and telling our story through everything from architecture and interior design, to coffee cups and the livery of our delivery van. I also ran our social media accounts, managed our PR and wrote articles and recipes for numerous publications including The Financial Times, Evening Standard, Vogue, Delicious Magazine & The Guardian.

Sadly, prohibitive rent increases and unresolvable lease issues at both sites forced our hand and we reluctantly concluded that it was a sensible time to end our adventure, closing Brick House in December 2019.
